With our large national eye care network — which includes optometrists and ophthalmologists — you can take advantage of personalized care from a private practice or convenient retail chains. Using network eye doctors can help you save money.

Protect your eyes and block blue light

Our vision plans give you access to discounts on Eyesafe® blue light blocking screen ﬁlters for your digital devices. Eyesafe screen ﬁlters can be easily applied to select smartphones, tablets and laptops and are designed to help reduce exposure to high-energy blue light and maintain color quality and luminance.

Take advantage of discounts on Dell XPS laptops, too. As a vision plan member, you can save up to to 20% off the cost of Dell XPS laptops with Eyesafe® Display.

Big care for little eyes

A child’s vision may change often, so regular eye exams are important. With the Children’s Eye Care Program, children up to age 13 are covered for a second eye exam each plan year.Silver and Gold plans also oﬀer coverage for a new pair of glasses (frames and lenses) if your child’s vision prescription changes .5 diopter or more in a plan year. Polycarbonate lenses for children are also available. This coverage is available at no additional premium cost and standard copays apply.

Extra coverage during pregnancy

Our vision plan includes maternity vision beneﬁts designed to help support optimal eye health for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. The maternity vision beneﬁts include coverage for a second eye exam during the plan year. You can also get a new pair of glasses (frames and lenses) if your vision prescription changes .5 diopter or more in a plan year. This beneﬁt is available at no additional premium cost. Standard copays apply.

Does the vision plan through UnitedHealthcare cover eye exams?

When visiting a network provider, your beneﬁts enable you to get a comprehensive eye examination from a state-licensed ophthalmologist or optometrist. If a disease or eye disorder is found, you may be referred to your health plan for medical eye coverage.

The vision plan’s Maternity Vision Beneﬁt provides for a second eye exam if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding and notice a change in your vision. There is no additional premium cost and standard copays apply.

With the Children’s Eye Care Program included with our vision plan, coverage is oﬀered for a second eye exam each year for children up to age 13. There is no additional premium cost for this program, and standard copays apply.
Is there coverage for eyeglasses or contacts?

For eyeglasses, you have an allowance under the Silver and Gold plans that you can use when you see a network provider. After your copay, this allowance can help you buy any frames your eye doctor oﬀers.

If you choose contact lenses instead of eyeglasses, UnitedHealthcare will cover the ﬁtting and evaluation fees in full after your copay, and an allowance will be applied toward the purchase of the contact lenses. You can save money by ordering contacts online at uhccontacts.comOpens in a new tab.
What savings or discounts are oﬀered under the vision plan?

Popular lens options — such as progressive lenses, tints, anti-reﬂective coating and more, if not covered under the plan — are available at prices up to 40% lower than retail prices. Standard scratch-resistant coating and polycarbonate lenses for dependent children are included at no charge.

For additional pairs of eyeglasses, including prescription sunglasses, there is a 20% discount at participating locations. Please note this may not be available in all states.

You’ll also have access to discounts on laser vision correction procedures through our alliance with QualSight® LASIKOpens in a new tab. QualSight LASIK surgeons oﬀer members a discount of up to 35% of national pricing.
Is there a beneﬁt to having both a health plan and a vision plan with UnitedHealthcare?

Eye examinations with the pupils dilated are important in following the progression of diabetes and other health conditions. Early disease can be treated to help prevent further developments and maintain eye health.

If you haven’t had a comprehensive eye exam in the last 12 months, we may reach out to you with additional information about the importance of scheduling an eye exam.
